MINI's New Special Countryman Brings the Boardwalk Spirit Wherever You Go

It’s been a decade since MINI decided to enter the popular subcompact premium crossover SUV segment with the Countryman, and the company already calls it a “successful all-rounder.” Naturally, popularity is not only hard to achieve but also to retain. No worries, though, because special versions are always a sure way to reignite interest.

Especially when said limited editions come just as the winter debuts in the Northern Hemisphere with promises of long walks along the beaches. Sorry, we’re already dreaming of the upcoming summer holiday. Let us get back to the point.

That is MINI’s new Countryman Boardwalk, a model that arrives to compliment another limited edition from the brand – the previously released MINI Convertible Sidewalk, a little drop-top costing almost $40k in the United States.

Pricing information has not been released for its more adventurous sibling, the Countryman Boardwalk, just yet. The brand does claim the model is “immediately available” and ready for ordering in three model versions, though.

On the other hand, we do know the Sidewalk and Boardwalk models will get to share the previously exclusive Deep Laguna metallic finish, among other things. MINI apparently developed the versatile crossover to “stand-out both on the metropolitan promenades and during trips to the beach” through a host of exterior and interior enhancements.

Besides the ocean-inspired body shade, the MINI Countryman Boardwalk also comes with contrasting black mirror caps and roof, along with patterns inspired by the British promenades traditionally found at the seaside, sometimes connected by miles-long wooden beam walkways.

These lent their name to the Countryman Boardwalk, and the model proudly displays the source of inspiration on the “Side Scuttle” lateral ornaments, roof flanks, as well as interior passenger-side bar.

Customers can have the Countryman Boardwalk in Cooper (136 hp), Cooper S (178 hp), and Cooper S ALL4 configurations. Gearbox choices are also in abundance, as the standard six-speed manual can be swapped for the 7-speed dual clutch; the all-wheel drive model exclusively packs an 8-speed Steptronic box.
