MINI Reveal Rocketman London Olympics Edition

The MINI Rocketman raised a few eyebrows at last year’s Geneva Motor Show with its very funky styling, small size, clever packaging and excellent design. Despite BMW officials saying that the car is merely a concept and it doesn’t preview any particular upcoming model, here they are again, many months (and rumors and speculations) later, showing us the same car, but with a much more eye-pleasing blue paint job, with black, white and red accents - we must admit it looks stunning, and much better than the grey-ish version from Geneva.

MINI’s main aim with this new version of the Rocketman is promoting parent company BMW’s involvement in the 2012 London Olympics, hence the ‘patriotic’ color scheme. Apart from the color changes, the ‘mini MINI’ gets excellent black 18-inch wheels, with white and red accents, a panoramic sunroof with strips of lights forming the shape of the Union Jack as well as integrated optical fibers which indirectly light the inside of the car.

Thanks to its low overall length, which is 70 cm (27.5 inches) shorter than the regular MINI, the car retains its excellent proportions and the ‘all you’ll ever need in the real world’ 3+1 seating arrangement, similar to that of the excellently packaged Toyota iQ. We hope MINI execs come to their senses and instead of giving us 4x4s, they give us a production version of this, which will be affordable (unlike any other MINI on sale today) small, fun and great to look at - this concept shows that they would be capable of delivering.
