MINI Recalls 2009 JCW and JCW Clubman

BMW North America has just announced that is recalling model year 2009 MINI John Cooper Works (JCW) and JCW Clubman due some problems with the service brakes. The German manufacturer announced that the problem in question affects a potential number of 560 vehicles.

In a statement posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website, the problem referred to the vehicles that have been equipped with 16 inch diameter front discs, which could lead to a less effective braking if intense brake usage occurs.

“BMW is recalling 560 MY 2009 JCW (John Coper Works) and JCW Clubman vehicles equipped with 16 inch diameter front discs rather than 17 inch discs. Under conditions of intense brake usage, braking performance would be reduced,”
the report stated.

Unfortunately, this is just as dangerous as it sounds. As you might have guessed, the direct consequence of such a problem could lead to a crash. The safety warning made it very clear that “Depending on traffic and road conditions, as well as a driver’s reactions, reduced brake performance could increase the risk of a crash.”

Of course, owners whose vehicles match the description may contact BMW/MINI at 1-866-275-6464 or by e-mail at [email protected].

Obviously, the manufacturer committed to solve the problem with no extra costs for the customers in question. “Dealers will inspect the front brake discs and pads and, if necessary, replace them,” the report said. Moreover, customrs may also contact the NHTSA hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153) or go to http://www.safecar.gov.
