The new MINI wasn't exactly the best received car in the world. Most people said it looked bulbous due to its taller hood line and that the front fascia was ugly. However, there's no bad automotive design that can't be cured by red racing stripes.
The ace only a bulldog mother could love has been subtly enhanced or this concept, the John Cooper Works preview model. A bit of red lipstick on the black grille, subtle mascara and sporty apparel to slim down the body: these are just some of the features they chose to set the JCW apart from the typical Cooper S.

It's still not a pretty car, and yet somehow we love it. That's because the Works car sitting on the Detroit Auto Show is somehow more than the sum of its German parts. It's got everything a boy racer wants in 2014: brushed aluminum look for the body, red accents, sports suspension and carbon fiber surrounds for the exhaust, just like Akrapovic offers.

There's no word on the engine, but that should be a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo with about 220 horsepower, available with either a manual or a six-speed auto box. The production version could be ready as early as September's Paris Motor Show.
