Apparently something went wrong while testing the Mk3 MINI Cooper D hatch and the British company decided to postpone the deliveries of the first batch of vehicles due to a problem related to the amount of noise the new engine makes.
As you probably already know, the 2014 hatches are fitted with a completely new engine family, using 500cc cylinders that share almost all of the parts. The Cooper D uses a 1.5-liter diesel engine making 116 HP and 270 Nm (200 lb-ft) of torque being the most frugal hatch of the moment, returning an average fuel consumption of 67 mpg (3.5 l/100km).

According to Auto Express, the news came to them when a customer called their office and told them that upon taking delivery of his brand new MINI on Friday morning he was called the same evening to go back and return it as the team found something suspicious with the acoustics.

"It was delivered on Friday morning and Friday evening they said bring it back. MINI said it was an audio acoustic problem which doesn't seem right. They said they've suspended all orders,” the disappointed customer said.

This comes as quite a surprise, especially since we’ve already heard a 1.5-liter petrol model a couple of days back and it sounded brilliant. Apparently the diesel counterpart has a completely different story. We’ll keep you posted as soon as we learn more.
