MINI Paceman JCW First Drive by Top Gear

The MINI Paceman JCW Edition made its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It is the most powerful MINI Paceman, developing 215 HP and 280 Nm of torque, all of those coming from a turbocharged 1.6-liter petrol engine.

Top Gear took it for a spin and told us what they thought about it. First of all the car is a hot hatch and the most expensive in the MINI line-up. It has the hatchback look even though it's not that obvious.

The car's engine is familiar, sounds good and performs admirably for a car that weighs 1,475 kg. Also the new electromagnetic centre differential does some wonderful things being able to send all of the car's power to the rear axle if needed.

The most important thing though is that this MINI is a lot of fun, as every MINI is supposed to be. Going through corners will not cause any trouble because the grip is rather good and the brakes do not fail in any circumstance. Also, because of the turbocharger, the maximum torque is available from 2,100 RPM.

Furthermore, the Paceman comes as standard with MINI's 4WD system which is impressive, mostly due to the new differential which actually works wonders when you're in doubt.

All in all, it's the personality of the MINI Paceman JCW that captivates and charms you. Even though in the same price range you could buy a M135i, it won't be as charming as this little fellow and that's why the British brand has so many fans.
