Presented as a barely hidden concept at the North American International Auto Show in January 2011, the Paceman was quickly given the go-ahead to go into production. The car quickly moved into the testing and development stages and is now almost ready for its reveal at the Paris Motor Show in September.
Production will start in mid-2013 and the Paceman or Countryman Coupe, whatever it’s going to be called, will be available in the US as a 2014 model year car.
This prototype that was caught testing by Youtube user FastSportscarDriver appears to be the Cooper S variant, powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine. But of course the whole engine range will be borrowed from the normal Countryman.
We’ll remind you that the five-door MINI Countyman is sold in Europe with a 98 PS 1.6-liter in the One variant, a 1.6-liter diesel with 90 PS in the One D, a 122 PS 1.6-liter in the normal Cooper, and a 112 PS diesel for the Cooper D.
That’s just the bottom of the range, because the Countyman Coupe will also have the more powerful turbo 1.6-liter of the Cooper S and the JCW, plus a 143 PS 2.0-liter diesel for the Cooper SD.
