All the hype around MINI focuses on its latest creations: the Paceman and the Countryman. Skiddmark took them both for a ride and did a side-by-side comparison.
The first thing they noticed was that both cars had the same dynamic feeling, even though the size differences are rather remarkable. However, driving them down the street is another story.

The Paceman has the stiff suspension that we're used to on MINIs and that proved to be a lot of fun but it can also cause a bit of a problem when driving on rough roads. Also, the latest MINI is less spacious inside than the Countryman, which gives you a sense of intimacy and a "sporty" feeling.

Despite that, the Paceman can fit 2 six-foot adults in the back seats easily so it's also comfortable for long journeys. At the same time, the Countryman's boot is bigger by 20 liters (330l vs 350l) and the difference increases to 90 liters when dropping the backseats (1,170l vs 1,080l).

Both MINIs were in the JCW configurations so the performance was rather identical. However, if you have to go for the standard, 2-wheel drive version, the wise choice would be to forget about getting the Sport suspension because, according to the guys from Skiddmark: "it may seem more sporty but the Paceman is likely to be faster and a whole lot more comfortable on the standard setup".

Overall, the balanced tipped in favor of the Paceman due to the better looks, sportier, more intimate feel and comfort at the same time. The Countryman is more practical but it looks rather dull compared to MINI's new model.
