Today MINI surprised us with the unveiling of 2 new models and a huge photo gallery. Unfortunately for its fan-base, apparently the new One model will have a brand new 1.2-liter engine.
The new turbocharged unit appears to be brand new in the line-up and it will only be used on the petrol One, the diesel variant getting a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder unit.

Power is rated at 102 HP from 4,250 - 6,000 rpm while torque will plateau at 180 Nm (132 lb-ft) of torque from 1,400 rpm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) will take 9.9 seconds (10.2 with the automatic gearbox) with a fuel consumption of 4.6-4.7 l/100 km (51.1 - 50 mpg).

Compared to its predecessor, the new model lost a cylinder an 0.4 liters of displacement but gained 4 HP and 27 Nm (20 lb-ft) of torque and 0.6 seconds in the 0-62 sprint while also driving consumption and CO2 emissions down.

However, I’m still disappointed that the new One isn’t using the 1.5-liter 3-cylinder unit instead. Now I really wonder how the 1.2-liter engine sounds like.
