MINI Looking for a Partner to Build a Smaller Car

Things are starting to look up for die-hard fans of the MINI that, most likely, are now in hospitals being treated for mental diseases after seeing that the new Cooper grew ever bigger in its latest iteration.

For years now, the average MINI aficionado has been complaining that the cars the company is making under BMW’s ownership are true monstrosities and bigger than they ever needed to be. Sales say different though, but that’s another topic.

In a recent interview, MINI boss, Pat McKenna said that they are looking into going small again with a new car that would be the incarnation of the MINI Rocketman concept, that was unveiled back in 2011.

However, he also said that  in order for this to come to life, the company would need a new chassis as BMW’s UKL platform can’t be used because it’s too big. Therefore, a partner to provide such a chassis would be needed but no one is stepping up right now.

We like what we’re hearing but we’re also worried that the new chassis, while small enough, might not provide that incredible go-kart feeling we’ve been getting used to. Keep your fingers crossed though!
