MINI Gets Involved in Extreme Winter Sports

BMW owned British icon MINI announced a partnership with renowned snowboard manufacturer Burton for the 2011 winter season. The brand will also be continuing its involvement with Austrian energy drink producer Red Bull, which is focused on the Red Bull Crashed Ice World Championship.

MINI will sponsor this year's Burton Global Open Series, which is one of the most progressive competitive snowboard series in the world. MINI will provide athlete and VIP shuttle services in the new MINI Countryman at the events, starting with the Burton European Open (BEO) next month in Laax, Switzerland. Thanks to optional MINI ALL4 all-wheel drive, the MINI Countryman promises driving fun and performance on the way to and from the mountain.

Apart from taxiing people on and off mountains, MINI will be involved in a variety of other onsite activities, and will also present two awards to competitors at the US Open, the final BGOS event of the season. The male or female rider with the most BGOS points for the 2010/2011 series will each receive a $50,000 cash prize and a new MINI Countryman.

MINI has also created a special rider award in line with its 'Creative Use of Space' philosophy, called (guess what?) 'Creative Use of Space'. The award will be an additional cash prize given to one male and one female rider showing creativity and progression throughout the BGOS series.

The car manufacturer will also expand its cooperation with Red Bull, being involved in the Red Bull Crashed Ice event, where groups of four ice-skaters will race downhill on an ice cross track. The races take place on a 350 meter-long artificial ice track that was specially created for each event. MINI will present competitors with the MINI Rookie Award, rewarding the best newcomer of the year. After the preliminary event in Munich on 15 January 2011, the MINI Rookie Award will be presented at the next three events in the Red Bull Crashed Ice World Championship.
