MINI Denies Plans for Domestic Production in China

Just last week, the guys from Autocar claimed that MINI might be planning to build the cars for the Chinese market on spot, in the communist country, to avoid paying too many taxes and transport charges.

This week, a MINI official denied these allegations and said that the British company already has plans for the Asian country and these do not include opening a new factory, according to auto.qq.com.

That means that, for the moment, things will remain the same, and the production will be taken care of by the factories in Austria, the UK, and the Netherlands, just like before.

Recently, the BMW-Brilliance joint venture obtained the green light from the Chinese Ministry of Environmental Protection to begin the third-phase of the expansion of its Shenyang factory, this April, thus allowing them to build an extra 400,000 units after the factory is completed, in 2017, including all-electric X1 models.
