MINI Cooper SD Breaks Cover: Official Details and Photos

Rumors surrounding a new performance diesel MINI have been circulating for a while now, but today the auto brand has officially confirmed production details of the anticipated version. Scheduled for launch this spring, the MINI Cooper SD will be the most powerful diesel variant yet in the MINI line-up.

In terms of design, the vehicles come with ‘SD’ lettering in its side indicator surrounds, twin tailpipes positioned in the centre of the rear apron, and an eye-catching roof spoiler (except for the cabrio model).

The unit in question is a new 2.0-litre engine developing 143 hp and 305 Nm (225 lb.ft.) of torque (available between 1,750 and 2,700 rpm), which will be available for the MINI, MINI Clubman, MINI Convertible and MINI Countryman.

The new MINI Cooper SD is fitted as standard with an extensive range of MINIMALISM technology. Features such as Brake Energy Regeneration, the Auto Start/Stop function, Shift Point Display, Electric Power Steering are included.

Taken separately, performance figures for each model are listed below:

The MINI Cooper SD comes with a 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62mph) acceleration time of 8.1 seconds, a top speed of 215 km/h (134 mph), an average fuel consumption of 4.3 l/100km (65.7 mpg), and CO2 emissions of 114 g/km.

The MINI Cooper SD Clubman comes with a 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62mph) acceleration time of 8.6 seconds, a top speed of 215 km/h (134 mph), an average fuel consumption of 4.4 l/100km (64.2 mpg), and CO2 emissions of 115 g/km.

The MINI Cooper SD Convertible comes with a 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62mph) acceleration time of 8.7 seconds, a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph), an average fuel consumption of 4.5 l/100km (62.8 mpg), and CO2 emissions of 118 g/km.

The MINI Cooper SD Countryman comes with a 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62mph) acceleration time of 9.3 seconds, a top speed of 198 km/h (123 mph), an average fuel consumption of 4.6 l/100km (61 mpg), and CO2 emissions of 122 g/km.

The MINI Cooper SD Countryman ALL4 comes with a 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62mph) acceleration time of 9.4 seconds, a top speed of 195 km/h (121 mph), an average fuel consumption of 4.9 l/100km (58 mpg), and CO2 emissions of 130 g/km.

The cars will likely be brought to the forthcoming Geneva Auto Show set to take place this March, when we will also get a price tag for each variant.
