MINI Cooper S Supersprint Exhaust Sounds Enticing

MINI’s latest models have gone against the stream defying the downsizing trend and going for bigger mills under the bonnet. Not huge engines but bigger nonetheless as the Cooper S model is now powered by a new B48 2-liter 4-cylinder plant.

We had the privilege of testing it and we found the car... interesting, to say the least. Obviously there were pros and cons, but the main idea is to have more of the former than the latter category. As we discovered, the MK3 Cooper S was better than expected.

However, if there was one area where the car could’ve used a bit more grunt that’s the sound. In our opinion the Cooper S should have a meaner growl with a some more pops and cracks.

Don’t get us wrong, the MINI was ‘angry’ enough and had a decent sound but a bit more ‘everything’ would’ve been welcome. Sure, the decision to make is quiet went to the fact that the John Cooper Works model will come out pretty soon and that one’s expected to bring more excitement. And yet...

For those looking for a more noticeable sound, the guys from Supersprint launched a new exhaust system that not only changes the sound of the car but also improves its numbers taking the output up from 192 HP and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) to 206 HP and 306 Nm (227 lb-ft) of torque. Small but essential gains.

The new exhaust features a 100 mm pipe but it isn’t a definite system for now as in you can’t buy it. However, the results are encouraging and we’re hoping to see it in stores pretty soon.
