MINI Cooper Paceman S Review by Car Magazine

The most recent MINI in the line-up of the British brand is the Paceman. This car was launched just 2 months ago and it already made a lot of waves around the world. Car Magazine tested the Cooper S version and liked it. Well, they didn't say it out loud, but the conclusion of their test drive seems to point in this direction.

The Paceman is a smaller and shorter version of the Countryman. It has 3 doors, 4 seats and the same engines and chassis underneath. The roof is has a different shape whilst the interior was subtly refreshed.

The Cooper S Paceman comes with the all too familiar 1.6-liter turbocharged unit that produces 184 HP and 177 lb-ft (240 Nm) of torque that are perfectly handled by one of the best gearboxes in the industry.

Its shifts are quick, with a short-throw gate, and the generous gear knob is comfortable and easy to hold. The pedals are perfectly weighted and the torque is more than enough.

Don't be fooled, this car is quick, even though it is a bit bigger than a Cooper S hatchback. It will also make you feel good into corners and, most of all, it's quite happy to slide its tail out once in a while.

The interior is better now that everyone insisted on some key facts. For example, the electric windows buttons are finally on the door panel, instead of the center console. Furthermore, you won't have to look at the center mounted speedo because you have a digital one right in front of you, inside the rev counter.

Overall, this is a car for MINI enthusiasts. Its price tag makes it hard to justify unless you really want to be a part of the MINI family, since you have to be really careful with the optionals, in order not to get too expensive.
