We have a soft spot for the Hong Kong tuning company Aspec. They arrived on the scene by making the Golf R400 that Volkswagen didn't want to. However, we will always remember them as the authors of the wildest Scirocco package ever, and today they've taken the F56 generation of the MINI Hatch to the next level.
Only a few hours ago, we were whining about how there's no good kit for this car, even though it's such a good, modern design. But Aspec has revealed something with just the right amount of madness, presumably at a local auto show.
The setup is called PMN290R. Because it's not on sale yet, we can't tell you if that actually means the Cooper S' 2-liter turbo has been tuned to 290 horsepower. But it easily can be, and Aspec has a lot of experience with everything from race cars to advanced exhaust systems.
The body kit itself is quite complex and full of distinctive features. At the front, the air intakes have been completely redesigned to be more square. The style is a lot like their Golf R400 package, which in turn reminds us of iconic Lamborghinis like the boxy Lamborghini Reventon.
Side skirts add a lot of muscle to what was a slim profile, while the real party is at the back. The wing dominates the entire hatchback, bigger than anything MINI will ever think of putting on the car. And at the bottom, the bumper has been completely redesigned to be more supercar-like. The highlight is a center stack of three exhaust pipes, arranged in a way that reminds everybody of the legendary Lexus LFA.
The custom MINI also has a delicate little palette, all white, with black accents and copper for the roof and extra-fat wheels. Again, this theme reminds us of the most exotic Lexus.
