MINI Considering Diesel Cooper for the US

With the new MINI Cooper, the British company might see new heights in sales but in order to do so, it will have to appeal to all kinds of customers and bring in new ones.

One of the ways to do so might be to introduce the MINI Cooper D model in the US also, according to Brand Product boss, Pat McKenna, as he stated for AutoGuide at the LA Auto Show, last week.

However, he held back from saying anything was official at the moment and said only that the company is “still exploring” such a possibility, based on what they ‘hear’ from dealers and customers.

“Diesel cars are very popular in Europe and in different parts of the world. I think it’s for the fuel savings but also for the torque characteristics,” McKenna said.

However, if a diesel might not be a sure thing in the US at the moment, a plug-in hybrid is, confirmed by the same MINI boss, in the same interview, but look for it in 2015.
