MINI Announces Lineup for 2010 NAIAS

After sometime last month BMW detailed the models which will be seen at the 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), it is now MINI’s turn to present its lineup for the upcoming event. The show will be held in Detroit from January 16–24, 2010 and is expected to welcome more than 700,000 visitors.

Aside from the MINI, MINI Clubman, and the new MINI Convertible, the brand will also be showcasing the MINI Concept Vehicle (Beachcomber) and the MINI E at the event.

The MINI Concept Vehicle, with four doors, four seats, and with newly developed four-wheel drive, comes to target new customers. No clear details have been released yet, but the concept model is expected to enter the market in a not too distant future, the carmaker says.

As for the MINI E, the brand’s first all-electric car built in a small series of 600 units is pioneering the development of alternative drive concepts within the BMW Group. The car’s electric motor delivers a maximum output of 150 kW/204 hp and is fed by a lithium-ion battery. This enables the MINI E to accelerate from a standstill to 62 mph in 8.5 seconds and offers  a maximum cruising range of 150 miles (250 km).

“Making a clear statement at the 2010 NAIAS, MINI is entering an important year full of highlights also in the US car market. The enlargement of the model range and the expansion of the dealer network set ideal perspectives for continuing MINI’s story of success in the USA. The models and concepts presented at the NAIAS by MINI offer an exciting outlook into the near and medium-term future of the brand,” a company statement reads.

The carmaker also announced that for the first time this year the MINI dealer network in the United States will comprise more than 100 dealers coast to coast.
