MINI Airstream New Details, Photos and Video

After last month we brought you the very first taste of the wicked idea MINI, Airstream Inc. and Republic of Fritz Hansen had of joining a Cooper S Clubman with an Airstream trailer, we come back today with the details and fresh new photos of the contraption.

The big question behind the concept study is "why"?. Well, according to MINI, this is the expression of the "mobile living theme in developing an innovative design study with a down-by-the beach feel." Of course, this meant the MINI had to be specially modified to accommodate its new addition.

Now, the trailer and the MINI are as one. The design of the Airstream trailer matches that of the MINI Cooper S Clubman, bringing an all-out eye-pleasing overall picture. The ideas of "beach", "water" and "surfing" are expressed throughout the concept, by the use of materials and aesthetics.

Since, in our opinion, the main attraction of the concept is the trailer, we will go into it a bit. Meant to be used as a R&R platform, after battling waves, surfboards or other "dudes" on the beach, the trailer greets its guests with a Superellipse table, ringed by four Series 7TM chairs. To remind of the sea, the floor of the trailer has a “yacht-deck” wood panel look, while the rear wall is decorated with floral prints and two surfboards halves, which double up as shelving.

Thanks to an electric motor and some well hidden hinges one side of the trailer can to folded down, revealing an integrated “daybed”. While you sleep, your friends can have a noisy party just near you, splashing around food and drinks across the two Egg chairs and a side table.

"We like to work with brands which share our passion for design. Collaborations fire our creativity. With the 'MINI and Airstream, designed by Fritz Hansen' concept, we are looking to show our customers new and innovative angles for the MINI Clubman and to cast a visionary eye into the mobility of the future.”
