Before the new MINI 5-door Hatchback makes an official world debut at the Paris Motor Show 2014, the company decided to unveil their pricing strategy for the UK. The new model will start at £14,350 ($23,545) in the company’s second biggest market worldwide.
Compared to its 3-door brother, the car with two extra doors is just £600 more expensive, a more than reasonable increase considering the advantages you get.

Put the two cars side by side and you’ll notice that the new one has a longer wheelbase and a bigger boot. Those extra 72 mm in between the wheels translate into more room in the back, crucial for rear seat passengers.

As for the technical bits and pieces, the exact same configurations are available, the range starting with the MINI One that is also the cheapest of the bunch, priced at £14,350 ($23,545). That kind of money will get you a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged plant making 102 HP and 180 Nm (133 lb-ft) of torque, enough for a car that weighs just over 1.2 tons.

The MINI One D comes with a similar 1.2-liter 3-cylinder diesel engine making 95 HP and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque and better fuel consumption. It’s also more expensive, starting at £15,490 ($25,414).

Moving up in the world, the Cooper comes with the new generation of 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engines. Depending on your choice, you can get a petrol or a diesel model. The petrol makes 136 HP and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque while the Cooper D makes 116 HP and 270 Nm (200 lb-ft) of torque. Prices for the petrol model start at £15,900 ($26,086) while the more frugal choice is more expensive, starting at £17,050 ($27,974).

The top tier models are the Cooper S and the Cooper SD. The Cooper S comes with the B48 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine making 192 HP and 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) of torque and starts at £19,255 ($31,591).

At the same time, the SD will be using a new engine that’s making its first appearance on the MINI. It’s a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel making 170 HP and 360 Nm (266 lb-ft) of torque. Prices for this model will start at £20,050 ($32,877). For more info on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, check out the adjacent photos.
