Not checking one's mirror prior to steering off the main road DOES get people killed. This fellow was lucky enough to avoid being killed and literally splattered by the incoming car, but he was an inch away from a gruesome demise.
The fact that the sedan passing the camera car was speeding, too played an important part in the dynamics of this crash. Lesser speed could have given the mindless rider just enough time to steer clear off the road... but this was not his day.
Unfortunately such scenarios are only way too common in Asian countries and many of these crashes result in fatalities. All at the price of spending 1 second to check the mirrors...
