Exhaust and tuning specialists Milltek have just branched out into retro cars with a product line called Milltek Classic. The flagship piece appears to be a custom system for the legendary Audi Ur Quattro 10V, the car that put this company on the map. If you have a classic German performance car that's more than a decade old, chances are that brand new parts are a little tricky to find, but this is going to be even better than stock.
The custom system is designed to match the style of the OEM exhaust system but offers all the usual throaty sound of a Milltek pipe, as well as better performance, lighter weight and comfort.
It matches both the 2.1 and the 2.2-liter versions of the the 10V quattro, so any car between 1981 and 1989 can be fitted with one. British performance exhaust manufacturer Milltek Sport has been in business for more than 30 years, so they were actually around when the Audi coupe was still in production, but their original blueprints were updated using the latest materials and fabrication methods.
The Ur Quattro is a legend of the 80s and many collectors will still gladly pay over €20,000 for a mint condition model. Its warbling 5-cylinder turbo engine defined all forms of rally driving at the time with the help of quattro 4-wheel drive traction.
Milltek’s engineers also solved one of the OE system’s weak points by adding a new mounting point to the boot floor which they say dramatically reduces movement of the rear silencer when cornering and revised the routing of the pipework over the rear axle to ensure no exhaust-to-body contact is made.
