Last year’s rainfall at Pikes Peak caused a lot of traction troubles and neither Toyota nor Mitsubishi managed to beat their records and gain top positions. This year things got much better, and Mitsubishi actually placed in the overall top three.
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) had two MiEV Evolution III all-electric racecars competing in the Electric Modified Division and both of them managed to destroy the previous electric time record of 9:46.530.

Greg Tracy won in the the Electric Modified Division this year by posting a time of 9 minutes 8 seconds 188, also scoring a second overall place. The No.2 MiEV with Hiroshi Masuoka behind the wheel came second in the class with a time of 9:12.204 and third overall in the race to the clouds.

"I am extremely happy to be able to deliver this Electric Modified class victory to Mitsubishi Motors. This win means that I am a winner both in two-wheel and in four-wheel vehicles, transitioning towards four wheels was because I really wanted to race with an electric vehicle,” said Greg Tracy. “The Mitsubishi Motors team prepared a fantastic race car for me. I want to thank the team and also Masuoka-san who helped to develop this phenomenal race car to capture this win.”

The new MiEV Evolution III boasts four electric motors, with the power summing up to the equivalent of 603 bhp (450 kW), a 67 bhp (50 kW) increase over the previous model. Each motor powers one single wheel and a retuned Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system makes sure they all function properly.

Built on a redesigned tube-frame chassis, the car is also lighter and makes more downforce thanks to a slightly reshaped body and spoilers.
