Mid-Engined Nissan GT-R Rendered, Looks Like a Japanese Ferrari

It's difficult to forget the way in which Nissan targeted Porsche and the 911 Turbo in particular, when introducing the R35 GT-R - the Japanese carmaker even posted controversial Nurburgring times showing that it can beat the Neunelfer. But there's no sign of Nissan going after Ferrari with Godzilla, or at least there didn't used to be, as the rendering we have here comes to change that.

This pixel play portrays the GT-R in mid-engined form. And the Japanese toy looks like a Ferrari because... the rendering borrows multiple styling elements from the 488.

We're talking about a simple choice made by the label behind the work and while this might not suit everybody's taste, we have to admit that the transition from the squared-off shapes of the Nissan GT-R to the nicely flowing design elements of the Italian exotic was executed with grace.

Sure, the hue of this mid-engined GT-R also helps with the Maranello impersonation, even though more and more Ferrari buyers like to challenge the only-one-color convention these days. For instance, here's a Verde Germolio 488 Pista that makes for the wildest spec we've discussed to date.

Returning to the Nissan GT-R and the real world, the Japanese automotive producer has yet to talk about the next iteration of the machine, even though the current one bowed back in 2007.

Of course, Nissan could always go back to the flagship idea it had before the turning point that led to the birth of the R32 GT-R in 1989. And I'm referring to the MID and MID4 II concepts of the mid 80s, which, as their name suggests, kept their engines in the middle.

With the industry betting it all on electrification these days, it's hard to believe that the next GT-R won't feature some form of electron juice sipping, but this is another story for another time.
