From its stunning value-for-money to the split opinions on the design and, sadly, the recent first public accident, the mid-engined 'Vette is everywhere. Heck, there's even an YouTuber who decided to settle the C8 vs. Mk V Supra dispute by buying them both. However, the time has come to look forward to the extended C8 family and we'll zoom in on the Z06.
Since the base mid-engined Corvette retains the Stingray nameplate of the entry-level C7, it's only reasonable to expect that the entire nomenclature will be maintained.
So, returning to the point made in the intro, let's take some time to talk about the upcoming C8 Corvette Z06.
I've brought along a rendering that portrays the machine, even though the pixel play we have here is basically just a wider incarnation of the Stingray.
On the tech front, the new Z06 is expected to be animated by the rumored 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8. With the displacement still being a guess, I can tell you that the unit will be linked to the new Blackwing LTA used by Cadillac. You know, the 4.2-liter twin-turbo V8 delivering 550 ponies and 627 lb-ft of twist.
Of course, with the 2020 'Vette Stingray delivering 495 hp in Z51 trim, the Chevy incarnation of the V8 will take things way past the said Cadillac output.
And big numbers won't be the only assets of the next Z06. You see, these days, the social media C8 master plan is to grab a Stingray, thrown in a TT kit and end up with close to 1,000 hp for under $100,000.
However, the C8 Z06 will have qualities such as drivability and a warranty on its side.
