Mid-Engined Corvette Flies on Nurburgring, Hybrid Version Rumored

The mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette is a solution GM has been considering for decades now, with the supercar almost being brought to life on multiple occasions. Well, the time has finally come to see the 'Vette making an upmarket move and we can now check out a prototype on the Nurburgring.

Yesterday, we brought you a rich photo gallery showing a pair of C8 prototypes doing their thing in the proximity of the German track and now a test car has been spotted flying on the track.

The rumor mill sees the engine compartment filled with everything but a diesel - a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 is expected as the base motor, while a twin-turbo V8 should land as the sprinter's choice. Even a plug-in hybrid is expected.

If Chevrolet decides to come up with such a generous engine range, the C8 Corvette will pack a serious asset in the fight against the competition, as very few of its rivals offer such a gas pedal diversity.

We'll once again talk about the important of the Nurburgring for the Corvette badge. You see, the C7 ZR1 was supposed to take the Ring credibility to new heights. However, despite the 755 hp monster having attacked the circuit in both 2017 and 2018, we have yet to receive any chronograph number. In fact, if you go on forums or social media, you'll even find gossip about the front-engined animal struggling to go below the magic seven.

Of course, with the C8 still having multiple development stages to complete, it's a bit early to deliver predictions.

However, you shouldn't expect this to be a production car lap record car. For one thing, by the time the production version attempts such a stunt, the title might already go to the stellar-league Mercedes-AMG Project One or Aston Martin Valkyrie.

Regardless, we're curious to see how far the mid-engined evolution takes the price tag of the Corvette.
