We've already seen the C8 Chevrolet Corvette doing its mid-engined thing on American soil, but the time has come for prototypes to set wheel on the Nurburgring.
So far, we only have one image of the future 'Vette testing in the proximity of the Green Hell, with the prototype having taken part in the Industry Pool session held today - lens tip to Bridge To Gantry for the pic.

Nevertheless, we should get our hands on extra spy material soon. After all, the C8 Corvette isn't expected to arrive until next year, so there's plenty of time to zoom in on its details.

Chevrolet hasn't released any info about the contents of the C8's engine compartment. Nevertheless, the rumor mill has gone wild on the topic.

As such, forum chat mentions more than one engine option for the slab of America. It seems that the base model will share a 6.2-liter V8 with the C7 Corvette. And while the naturally aspirated motor of the Stingray seems just a bit shy for the job, the 650 hp LT4 of the Z06 and the 755 hp LT5 animating the ZR1 seem more fitting for the job.

Nevertheless, the C8 Chevrolet Corvette should also receive a twin-turbo V8. And with Cadillac CEO Johan de Nysschen having recently dismissed rumors on Caddy's new TT 4.2-liter V8 being shared with Chevrolet, there's another unit to think about. We're referring to an all-new LT7, which would pack a dual overhead cam and come with a displacement of 5.5 liters.

The Nurburgring is currently a bitter-sweet affair for Chevrolet and that's because the golden bowtie's current top dog, namely the Corvette ZR1, failed to impress on the infamous German track.

The C7 ZR1 has been blitzing the Ring since last year and yet no official lap time has surfaced to date, with the rumor mill talking about the front-engined machine failing to go below the 7m mark.

Regardless, the C8's more balanced layout and superior technology means it should perform much better on the Green Hell.

Update:We've added a comprehensive set of spy photos showcasing two C8 Corvette prototypes in the proximity of the Nurburgring.

These testers allows us to check out more details than ever before, even taking us inside the supercar, albeit with the cabin being fully covered at this point.

Well, you shouldn't allow the provisional look of the front and rear light clusters trick you into believing we're dealing with an aging design. GM is well aware of what an upmarket step means and thus we're expecting the mid-engined Corvette to be styled accordingly, despite its still-on-a-budget aura.
