I’m talking about every possible BMW here, on autoevolution's blog, from cars with LS1 engines under the bonnet to those without an engine to begin with. This time, I stumbled upon a mid-engined E30 and I simply had to share it with you.
The car was built from ground up by a Romanian BMW fan by the name of Toma Alexandru. According to his claims, the engine’s an M50 unit that makes 350 HP from a 2.8-liter displacement. It’s quite curious how he got so much power out of the old 6-cylinder unit and how he ended up with 300cc extra.

The biggest M50 unit ever made was the M50B25 and had 2.5-liters. Our guess is that he used a stroker to enlarge the capacity and therefore reached 2.8-liters. However, it still can’t explain the power surge.

The mid-car positioning does reduce the driveshaft to a considerably smaller size but that doesn’t explain everything. Unfortunately, he didn’t provide too much info either but, in case you know him personally or know more than I do at the moment, feel free to let me know in the comments section below.

In the mean time, let’s watch it drag racing some other heavily modified cars. With a total weight of just 1,000 kilos (driver included) and 350 HP, this little E30 is a fast SOB. Enjoy!
