Michigan Dealer Confirms Offer for Pontiac, GM Promptly Says No

Here you have it: an interested Pontiac dealer, namely Waldron Pontiac, is making an offer for GM’s brand – which is actually going to be phased out by the end of 2010 – but the American automaker quickly comes out and says “No, we’re not going to sell the brand”. And to make the story a bit more weird, Jim Waldron of Waldron Pontiac said he only wants the brand – which makes things even more attractive for General Motors – and even joined forces with other six investors to establish a detailed plan for the transaction to take place.

What’s the catch? you might ask. Don’t know, but judging from this story, it may seem like the American manufacturer has at least one backup offer for the ailing brand. We mean, killing the brand is one major step even for a large company and General Motors and although you’re receiving offers from interested parties that could make things a lot easier, you’re still struggling to stick to your plan? No wonder bankruptcy has become an option…

Still, according to WJRT-TV, Jim Waldron still hopes to reach an agreement, pointing that the guys over at General Motors who are currently in charge with media communications may not know about the offer. Well, that’s possible too, considering the chaos the economic turmoil has caused inside GM…

And speaking of media relations officials, GM Vice President of North American Communications Tom Pyden is one of the GM representatives who told the aforementioned source that GM is not intending to sell Pontiac but to continue the shutting down process, as announced this week.

Well, we’re still waiting for some official comments coming from General Motors but, taking into account that Pontiac is going to die anyway, snatching at least one dollar for it would be a great deal for the American company.
