Michelle Rodriguez Talks About Furious 7 and Her Car Enthusiasm

When directors chose her to play Letty Ortiz 14-years ago, Michelle Rodriguez didn’t even have a driver’s license. But since the tuning scene in Jersey City, where the actress grew up, was so big, the Furious 7 star admits she always wanted to be part of that world. The greatest cars in the custom business is one of the reasons she believes the franchise is that popular on a global scale and has survived until today.

Described by Entertainment Weekly as one of the most visible Latinas in Hollywood, the 36-year old actress is one of the veterans starring in the soon-to-be-released seventh installment of the Fast and Furious franchise. In an interview she did with Vibe Magazine Rodriguez talked about the success of the action movie saga, growing up the street racing culture and playing Letty Ortiz.

The 36-year old Hollywood star believes the custom cars and the impressive stunts Fast and Furious movies have featured over the years are some of the reasons the media franchise was so successful. “When people say ‘Michelle, how does a franchise like this survive 14 years of its existence and only keeps getting bigger’ I tell them that there aren’t too many people making movies where you have a multi-cultural cast and this characters aren’t your stereotypical enemies,” Michelle added.

Often centered on illegal street racing and heists, the movie series all together have earned $2.3 billion as of October 22, 2013, at the worldwide box office. By this it has become Universal’s biggest franchise of all time. It’s no wonder producers are doing everything they can to make the best out of the Furious 7, especially that Paul Walker, who has starred as Brian O’Conner since 2001, will mark his final appearance due to his tragic death.
