Michelin, together with Bamford London, have come up with an exclusive 133-piece limited edition watch called the B347 Pilot Sport. Why name a watch after a Michelin tire, you ask? Because the strap itself is made using recycled Pilot Sport 5 rubber. That’s pretty cool.
The Michelin x Bamford B347 Pilot Sport is a chronograph featuring a 41.5 mm forged carbon case, housing a Sellita SW510 automatic movement and a single push-button at your 2 o’clock for the start-stop-reset function.
There are many more automotive-related references though, such as the racing-inspired chequered pattern tachymeter. Meanwhile, you get signature Michelin yellow on the seconds and sub dial hands, whereas the black dial features white accents and luminous hour and minute hands – the white sub-dials are a nod to Michelin’s latest brand campaign where tires are shown as white circles.
You’ll find more “Michelin Yellow” on the strap as a unique colored fleck. The strap, as previously stated, is made using recycled Pilot Sport 5 tires, with the material being sourced from Michelin’s R&D campus in Clermont-Ferrand, France.
Design-wise, the strap boasts a real tread pattern, taken from the Pilot Sport 5 – specifically a 225/40 ZR18 (92Y) tire, like the ones you’d find on something like a BMW E36 and E46 M3, a Lotus Evora, Morgan Aero 8 or various iterations of the VW Golf GTI.
Last but not least, the caseback and custom box come with a heritage ‘race winner’ Bibendum (Michelin Man), which fans of the brand will surely appreciate.
“What started out as a light-bulb moment, stood next to a line-up of Porsches at a car event with a friend who works at Michelin, has developed into this stunning display of two pioneering brands. The racing-inspired design, lightweight carbon body, integrating the recycled tyre rubber and marking this by adding the tread pattern from their latest tyre – it all works,” said Bamford London founder, George Bamford.
As for how much one of these limited-edition timepieces will set you back, that would be £2,500 ($3,000), including taxes.
