Michelin Recalls Tires Due to Missing DOT

When we thought we had enough on our minds dealing with economic crisis and other such shortcomings, here comes news that will further mess with your plan for a family weekend. It concerns your car. Or rather its rubbers.

If you are a bit used to automotive terminology, then you surely know what a recall is. If you don't, then we'll tell you a recall is a procedure through which a manufacturer gives you a call and tells you there is something wrong with your car. And so you have to go back to a dealer or car service so that they can fix the problem. Usually a minor one, but one they failed to spot before.

Well, no car manufacturer will recall your car. Not unless you are a Japanese Toyota Yaris owner. Yet, this doesn't mean you're in the clear, because someone will recall your tires. So, unless you are keeping your tires in the back yard to be used as swings by your children, your car will have to come along for a ride to the nearest Michelin dealer to have your tires replaced.

Michelin is recalling 784 Michelin Pilot Alpin Tires, size PA2 ZP 225/50R17 94H, produced from September 17, 2006 through June 14, 2008. The reason for the recall is that the tires do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 139 : “ The 'dot' symbol of the dot tin is missing”. The missing dot means the tire contains no declarations as to its certification.

So, if they haven't called you yet, go to the garage and start counting your dots. You might be the lucky winner of a free-of-charge trip to a dealer to have your tires replaced, mounted and balanced.
