Michelin reveals their latest dual-sport tire, the Anakee Wild. The new tire is a mixed type blending radial and parallel belt plies, and Michelin claims that Anakee Wild brings dramatic improvements in no less than three key areas: longevity, efficiency, and comfort.
The first thing that must be said about the new Michelin Anakee Wild is that you're looking at tires that were engineered with off-road rides in mind. What Michelin described as "trail" for the previous Anakee incarnation were in fact of little use when mud would show up in the way, but the Anakee Wild are an entirely different story.

When we first laid eyes on the Anakee Wild, flat-track tires were the one thing that came to mind. However, even though the generic pattern seems somehow similar, the spacing of the knobs is different, for reduced mud and stone retention.

The tires come with a radial structure for the walls and two steel rods reinforcing the shoulder, providing excellent resilience on changing terrain and extra comfort.

Belts that run parallel with the steel reinforcements offer structural strength, countering forces that lead to the deformation of the tire under the action of centrifugal force at high speed.

With a tire that retains its shape even under high stress, the new Anakee Wild offers enhanced safety and predictability, more responsive steering and a more confident feel, Michelin says. The French manufacturer says that the Anakee Wild are the first knobby tires that offer such stability and comfort on the road, an exclusive benefit of the radial technology.

No 21" front, no 18" rear

Now, the only downside of the new tires is that Michelin does not offer them in the classic off-road size combo. That is, the Anakee Wild is not available in 21" and 18" dimensions for the front and the rear, respectively.

The new Anakee will only come in 110/80 R19 and 120/70R 19 sizes for the front and 150/70 R17 and 170/60 R17 for the rear. Prices and availability to follow soon.
