Michele Mouton Appointed New WRC Manager

Starting today, the FIA World Rally Championship has a brand new manager in the person of former rallying winning driver Michele Mouton. The most successful woman in the history of rallying was handed her new role after previously heading the FIA's Women and Motor Sport Commission last year.

As confirmed by the ruling body via a press release, Mouton's new responsibilities in her first official position within the WRC will comprise the co-ordination of all aspects of the Championship, including but not limited to safety, regulations and the calendar.

This is a very exciting and challenging opportunity, especially at a time when President Todt wants to significantly increase the profile of the sport and take it to new heights,” said Mouton, the first female rally driver to win a WRC rally, back in the 1980s.

I am looking forward to working with all the WRC stakeholders; together I believe we can bring new dynamism to our spectacular sport,” she added.

For all of our readers who are passionate about rallying, a rallying CV of Michele Mouton would be redundant. However, some things are better to be mentioned, such as the fact that the Frenchwoman won 4 rallies in the 1980s, while also becoming vice-champion of the WRC in 1982.

Despite having picked up this role within the WRC, Mouton will continue to hold the presidency of the FIA's Women and Motor Sport Commission.

In addition to the duties mentioned above, she will also represent the sport’s governing body on the majority of WRC events, working in close collaboration with the manufacturers, promoters and event organizers.
