Michael Schumacher Used to Own This Family Wagon, Now It Can Be Yours

For the past years, Michael Schumacher made the headlines only for the serious head injury he sustained while skiing. This story isn’t about that. It's about one of the cars Schumi used to own.

Over the years, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion owned an incredible amount of more or less special cars. From unassuming stuff like a Fiat Croma to a Ferrari FXX and a Bugatti EB110, Schumacher is an out-and-out car nut on and off the race track. This Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG with 198,000 kilometers (123,000 miles) on the clock is one of those cars.

Listed for €119,950 by CTS Car Trade Sales, the Berlin-based dealership doesn’t specify for how long Michael Schumacher held on to this car or what’s the deal with the head in the passenger seat, but anyway, just look at the thing. This family-oriented blast from the past is up to snuff, isn’t it?

If you look even closer at the interior photographs, you’ll notice that the center stack is adorned with the Ferrari shield logo and a plaque that reads... well, something. Produced from 1998 through 2002, the E55 AMG T-Modell from the S210 generation is motivated by a freely aspirated V8 engine.

With 354 PS (349 horsepower) and 530 Nm (391 lb-ft) on tap, the E55 AMG was the maddest station wagon of its epoch. By comparison, the 2017 Mercedes-AMG E63 S Estate (S213) will boast a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 blunderbuss with 612 PS (604 horsepower) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque.

Michael Schumacher’s Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG is decked out with black-and-white Designo leather upholstery and comes with automatic air conditioning, APS 30 satellite navigation, Parktronic, and Linguatronic. By 1998 standards, it was the bee’s knees to drive your kids to school in such a station wagon.

So there you have it. If you’re in the market for one of the zaniest family cars to come out of Affalterbach, one that prides itself on the ownership of the greatest racing driver in Formula 1 ever, this S210 fits the bill perfectly.
