Seven time Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher is reportedly in a “life-threatening” condition following the head injuries sustained yesterday by the German, while crashing on a ski slope in the French Alps.
The former Formula One driver, who needed immediate neurosurgical intervention, is now in a coma at the university hospital in Grenoble and “remains in a critical situation.”
“He suffered a severe head injury with coma on arrival, which required immediate neurosurgical intervention. He remains in a critical situation,” the hospital said in a statement, which was confirmed by Schumacher’s manager. "His state of health has worsened and his condition is considered life-threatening, according to our information,”, local newspaper Dauphine Libere added.
Professor Gerard Saillant, a friend of Schumacher and one of the leading neurologists in Paris, arrived in Grenoble to assist with the German’s treatment. Recent reports say that Mercedes AMG team principal Ross Brawn and FIA president Jean Todt are at the hospital as well.
