Michael Phelps was traveling through the For McHenry Tunnel in Baltimore, Maryland when he got pulled over by the Maryland Transportation Authority Police. Police claims the 29-year old swimmer was speeding at 84 mph (135 km/h) in a 45mph (72km/h) zone. He was arrested for DUI, a charge that was pretty bad for the sporstman’s image.

In fact, Phelps later on said he was sorry in a statement he put on social media, which reads: “Earlier this morning, I was arrested and charged with DUI, excessive speeding and crossing double lane lines. I understand the severity of my actions and take full responsibility. I know these words may not mean much right now but I’m deeply sorry to everyone I have let down.”

In February 2009, publication of a photograph of Phelps using a water pipe, resulted in the loss of Kellogg as a sponsor, as well as a three-month suspension from USA Swimming.

Back then, the swimmer admitted that the photo, taken at a student party at the University of South Carolina, was authentic. He then publicly apologized and said his behavior was “inappropriate.”
