What better way to start the New Year than with an extraordinary treat – for yourself? A dealer out of Houston, Texas, is selling a rare Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition with incredible celebrity pedigree.
You know what they say, third second time’s a charm. Just one day after a previous auction ended without meeting reserve, Crave Luxury Auto is hoping this time will be the lucky one. A 2007 Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition that was previously owned by His Airness Michael Jordan is up for grabs.
The roadster is listed on eBay, and bidding at the time of writing is at $241,800, about $40K over the final bid at the previous auction, which ended on January 3. That event closed when reserve was not met, which should give you an idea of how expensive this baby is: the dealer lists it at $695,750.
Of course, it’s not just the celebrity pedigree that’s working in its favor. After all, with a little over 1,000 miles (1,610 km) on the odometer since bought, it’s not like Jordan did much driving in it. The Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren is a rare car, with just 2,157 units produced between 2003 and 2010.
Of these, 150 were for the 722 Edition, which was unveiled at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show and was eventually produced for just one year. The 722 badging is a tribute to Stirling Moss and Denis Jenkinson’s victory in the 1955 Mille Miglia race with an MB 300SLR bearing the 722 number.
Chassis number 001327 is powered by a 5.5-liter SEFI AMG Supercharged V8 engine mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission and able to take it to 62 mph (100 kph) in 3.6 seconds from a standstill, and on to a top speed of 210 mph (338 kph). Painted silver with red 722 badging, this 722 has a black interior combining carbon fiber and leather upholstery.
“All things considered, the 001327 is an exceedingly rare piece coveted by any automobile connoisseur worth his salt,” the listing notes.
