In case you were wondering, yes, Michael Bay is still blowing up stuff. For a director best known for his action scenes and well-staged explosions, he’s not the kind of guy to fix something that ain’t broke.
What Bay likes most blowing up is cars. Right after he has them in thrilling actions scenes.
Footage emerged online confirms that he’s sticking to the winning formula – and he even has leading man Ryan Reynolds do the work for him in terms of drumming up interest in their new movie, “6 Underground,” a Netflix production that boasts a $125 million budget.
For this kind of money, Bay can wreck a lot of cars, and that’s exactly what he does. Both Bay and Reynolds are aware of the director’s online reputation, which explains the video Ryan posted to his Twitter, in which he talks about what he likes more about working with Bay, while cars crash and explode in the background.
“Best part about shooting with Michael Bay?” Reynolds says, leaning against a building, with arms folded and his serious face on. “I don't know, a lot of people would say the action but for me, it's the stillness, you know? Those quiet moments.”
That’s when the crashes and the explosions begin. Among the cars involved is also a neon green Alfa Romeo Giulia that Reynolds was seen in a couple of days ago, shooting for the same chase sequence. A stunt driver took over from him for this crash and explosion scene.
“The essence of it, you can feel it - you can get lost in the character's eyes,” Ryan continues, somehow managing not to burst out laughing. “Those are the moments for me, I think.”
In addition to the neon green Giulia, “6 Underground” also stars humans Melanie Laurent and Dave Franco, and will be out in 2019.
