MG Starts Shipping Electric ZS SUVs, 2,000 Ordered so Far

The troubled times for British carmaker MG seem to be behind it now that the company embraced the path to electrification. Their first electric car, the EV variant of the ZS SUV, has all the chances of becoming one of their greatest hits.

This modified ZS was presented for the first time in July, and last week the first in its line got delivered. Between its official presentation and the moment of the first delivery, some 2,000 orders for the car have been placed, a very high number for a company this size.

“This is a tremendous occasion for the MG brand as it represents another big milestone in our mid-term growth plan. We’ve made big investments in new technology and we’re proud to be bringing affordable zero-emissions motoring to UK car buyers”. said in a statement Daniel Gregorious, Head of Sales & Marketing at MG Motor.

MG describes the ZS as the “first truly affordable, family-friendly electric car,” as it is priced from £21,995 after applying the government’s subsidy and the carmaker’s own incentive.

For that amount, customers get the usual ZS looks, with minor design modifications, and of course the electric powertrain. In the case of the ZS this powertrain is comprised of a 44.5kWh lithium-ion battery and a single electric motor mounted on the front axle.

The range of the electric SUV is not exactly at the top of the food chain, but should prove enough for daily needs: 163 miles (262 km). As for power levels, the electric motor cranks out 143 ps and 353 Nm of torque.

Visually, the ZS EV sets itself apart from the rest of the range by using a front grille beneath which resides a CCS charging port. It also runs of new 17-inch alloy wheels. The ZS EV is Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible.

More details on the car can be found in the document attached below.
