The badge on the front of their cars might be very old, but MG is essentially a brand new motor company. They’ve been put back in business by Chinese automaker SAIC, who have given them a couple of models to sell, the MG6 and soon the MG3 supermini as well.
We know for a fact that they are also working on a crossover, but the company’s European heads are still eyeing a return to the company’s sporting roots. Right now, the new sportscar is just an idea in MG executive David Lindley’s head, and he still has to convince his Chinese bosses it’s a good idea.

“There’s a definite understanding from our Chinese owners what [a sports car] will do for our brand,” says Lindley in an interview with Piston Heads. “The traditional sports car industry is shrinking and shrinking. We want to create something that’s seen as the next breed of sports car.”

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
