Chinese automaker SAIC has officially confirmed it will be bringing a concept crossover to the upcoming Beijing Auto Show, which will take place towards the end of the month. According to CarNewsChina, the car will be based on the MG5, which in turn shares its parts with the Roewe 350.
The car will be known as the Icon, at least as a concept. In Beijing it will debut with a 1.5-liter turbo engine. We can expect to see a launch in China within a year, but whether or not it will be brought to Europe is still undecided.

MG’s Chief Designer, Tony Williams, reportedly told a Chinese publication that they have been working on the SUV since 2010. Since this is a direct rival to the Nissan Qashqai, it might also see European production in Surrey, UK.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
