U.S.-based Sondors makes a variety of electric bicycles for a variety of enthusiasts, but with a focus on affordability. Its first foray on the market of electric motorcycles, called Metacycle, also aims for the same affordable label.
Unveiled in Los Angeles, California, Metacycle stands out for a minimalist, downsized design, ideal for the urban commuter looking for something stylish that won’t break the bank. A separate site for it has already been launched, but there’s no word yet on availability (hat tip to RideApart).
With a brushed aluminum body, Metacycle is incredible light, sitting at just 200 pounds (90.7 kg). Because it’s made for the city and the crowded spaces urbanites encounter there, Sondors made sure to put a removable battery on it, which means you can take it up to your flat for charging.
Speaking of battery, it’s good for 80 miles (129 km) on a single charge, which is more than enough for the daily commute, even in large urban areas. As with every other electric vehicle, the range is entirely dependent on the weight of the rider, terrain, and weather, as well as the mode of riding.
The top speed is 80 mph (129 kph), with Sondors saying the hub-mounted motor produces 8 kWh of nominal power and 14.5 kWh of peak power, as well as 80 lb-ft (108 Nm) of nominal of torque - 200 lb-ft (270 Nm) at peak.
“Free from noise, vibration, fumes, and fueling stations,” Sondors says of its new bike. “Metacycle brings you the freedom to unapologetically experience the joy of the ride in its purest form. Built for an elevated transportation experience that makes the ordinary journey, a trip of a lifetime.”
Metacycle will cost just $5,000 at launch, but, as noted above, no availability date is mentioned. However, you can already pre-order it if what you need in your life right now is a stylish, decently fast, and very affordable two-wheeler for your commute.
