Board games are flourishing these days, from the amazing developments crowdfunding has fueled to the solid names rocked by big publishers. However, that's not to say the video game scene has lost its mojo, with the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 being an example as good as any - based on a tabletop game that came around in 1988, the said title will land this September, coming to Windows, Playstation and Xbox. As such, digital artists from around the world have decided to help us pass the time by introducing their takes on the game's automotive side. Case in point with this Mercury Cougar.
The muscle toy we have here started out in life as a... 3D model of a 1969 Mercury Cougar XR7, but the thing now looks like it could easily blend in as far as the said universe is concerned.

Back in the late 1960s, the Blue Oval introduced the Cougar on the platform of the revised 1967 Ford Mustang, albeit with an elongated wheelbase (think: an extra 3 inches brought the overall value to 111 inches). And while this non-identical 'Stang twin could be had with the kind of firepower that demanded the muscle car label, the focus was on luxury and extra features - the XR7 we have here was the more lavish model.

The electric shaver grille is still present in this pixel portrait, albeit with the sci-fi lighting adorning the whole thing.

Nevertheless, the lower side of the vehicle sports the kind of aero you'd expect to find on a custom example of a modern muscle car, from the rod-secured front splitter to the side skirt extensions.

Perhaps the best part of this rendering comes from the balance between the old-school and the futuristic elements, as the mix seems to be uber-stable. Of course, the latter bits are also helped by the livery of the machine.

It seems that Tiutiunikoff, the pixel master behind this creation, decided to leave the rear end of the Mercury Cougar pretty much untouched, which is quite an achievement in today's diffuser-dominated rendering landscape.
