While the Mercedes-AMG GT may never come to us ib Convertible form, Affalterbach engineers have something that will make us forget all about that and we’re referring to the GT Black Series here.
Here’s something to chew on - while you are reading this, the Germans are out there, testing the future range-topping incarnation of the GT. We know this since the prototype has already been spied, but the development work is still ongoing.
Once a car has debuted, it usually takes Mercedes two years to offer us the Black Series label. Mind you, the Mercedes-AMG GT may have been launched earlier this week, but it won’t land in showrooms until early next year, which means that 2017 is the earliest time we should expect for the arrival of the Black Series.
As we’ve been accustomed thanks to other Black Series occasions, the model will mix extra grunt with handling-boosting assets. As far as the hp part is concerned, the all-new twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 hiding under that long hood is expected to be boosted towards the 600 hp mark. For the sake of comparison, we’ll mention the most powerful of the two current models, namely the AMG GT S, delivers 510 hp.
As for the rest of the tech updates, bits under the car will be joined by a set of aerodynamic tweaks. As previous Black Series models have demonstrated, the aero parts will be rather extreme. The rendering above, which comes from an artist with a rather complicated nickname, rc82 workchop, give us a pretty good idea of what the GT Black Series will bring as far as the eye is concerned.
PS: in case this shade of Yellow looks familiar, the SLS AMG Black Series is the one to blame.
