The Mercedes Unimog can now be used for yet another activity, as a team of enthusiasts from Bocklet, Germany has built an expedition camper based on the UniversalMotorGerät (Universal Motorized Unit, the Unimog’s full name).Michael Bocklet and his team used a Unimog U 4000 as a base vehicle, which has a 2,249 cc four cilinder diesel engine that produces 218 hp and offer extreme off-road capabilities. The vehicle has been fitted with a 290 l diesel tank plus two 20 liter reserve canisters.
The team has installed a camper module which is 4.35 m long, 2.2 m wide and 1.95 m high. The module uses 50 mm thermal bridge-free fiberglass-reinforced plastic for the walls and a 60 mm floor.
The vehicle is equipped with a washroom, which comes with a cassette toilet, wash basin and shower and a gas/electric boiler, as well as a corner kitchen that offers a two burner gas stove, a sink and a drainer. A lockable passage leads to the cab, housing a wardrobe and a 100 liter compressor fridge.
The interior of the vehicle has been fitted with longitudinally arranged benches that feature Alcantara upholstery. The entire rear area houses a 200x135 cm double bed. The Unimog carries 300 liters of fresh water, along with a waste tank holding 200 liters.
The Camper Unimog uses a diesel powered hot air interior heater, a 220 Ah battery, 260W solar panels, LED spots, TFT TV, a satellite dish and a DVD player.
The 6.85 m long, 2.35 m wide and 3.5 m high expedition camper based on the Mercedes Unimog U 4000 has a price of EUR 248,000.
