We really like a fresh year start with news about convertible vehicles. It makes us think about the spring, dry roads, tire smoke and of course, glamorous girls riding with the wind in their hair. So, let’s get to the point: Mercedes-Benz has trademarked the adjacent designs for a two-seater topless vehicle, making us think about a successor for the Crossblade, as carscoop.blogspot.com reports.

We’ll remind you that the smart Crossblade concept came to the world at the 2001 Geneva Auto Show, offering a fully-shaved image, achived through a minimalist approach in terms of body panels. The vehicle made it into limited production one year after that, in the form of the fortwo cabrio.

The Internet offers us this useful pathway - the trademark patent office - that allows us to see what various automotive producers are cooking. However, the smart delicacy we see here follows the usual recipe: all eye-candy, no info. This means that we’ll have to wait until someone with a more or less official position decided to add some details on top of the cake.

The designs seem to be previewing the next generation of the smart fortwo. not necessarily a near-term, topless release. As you can see, the overall smart shape, as well as the Tridion Safety Cell are still here, but all the details have been changed, with the styling cues screaming “look at me, I am new!”. This new-age trend can be found all over the vehicle, so we guess that smart is preparing a revolution.
