The new project includes vehicles sold on the European, North American and Asian markets, and is scheduled to start this month.
The Sprinter line-up will be equipped with the Kumho Radial 857 commercial van tire. This will be used for models up to 3.5 tonnes (gross vehicle weight), that come to the world via Daimler’s Dusseldorf and Ludwigsfelde German production sites. The 857 tire has been chosen thanks to its high level of wear resistance and good handling characteristics.
The tie-up between the Korean tire producer and the German carmaker was established in 2007, when Kumho was chosen as the tire supplier for the Mercedes A-Klasse line-up. One year later, the Viano X-Clusive van was fitted with tires from the Korean company. Recently, the Actros rigid trucks and tractors units destined for the Korean market received Kumho tires. Mercedes' Smart brand also uses Kumho as a tire provider.
This is how Kumho presents the new development: “The Sprinter is one of the best selling vans in Europe, and Kumho hopes the new OE contract will help grow awareness for its extensive product range and thereby also increase sales in the replacement tire market. The company has an aggressive strategy to further increase its OE business – especially with the world’s premier brand manufacturers.”
