Mercedes SLS AMG Gets RENNtech Treatment

The aftermarket specialists at RENNtech have turned their attention to the Mercedes SLS AMG supercar once again, after in late 2010 they offered a tuning program aimed at “unleashing the beast hiding underneath the refined exterior.”

But in the automotive world there is always room for more, and RENNtech seems to take things seriously when it comes to that.

Their latest offering for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG has just been introduced, offering the V8 powerplant under the supercar’s hood some extra 20 horsepower and 20 lb.ft. of torque.

We’ll remind you that the vehicle’s standard naturally aspirated 6.2 liter V8 powerplant delivers 571 hp at 6,800 rpm and a peak torque of 651 Nm (480 lb-ft) at 4,750 rpm.

Designed and engineered in house specifically for the Mercedes SLS, RENNtech’s long tube headers feature high quality, tri-metal, 200 cell sport catalytic cells and are ceramic coated to reduce heat in the engine compartment as well as combat against thermal stress.

The long primary tube design allows for improved low end torque resulting in improved off the line and bottom end performance. The reduction in exhaust system back pressure and free flowing design also dramatically improves overall performance with a head turning exhaust note for a bark as wicked as its bite.

The official figures for the SLS AMG by RENNtech are listed below:
SLS (C197) Stock Performance: 563 HP at 6800 RPM; 479 LB-FT @ 4750 RPM
Gains from RENNtech’s long tube headers: +20 HP; +20 LB-FT
