Mercedes SLK 55 AMG Engine Detailed in New Video

Prepare your beach gear, as you’re about to get some internal combustion tan - the latest Mercedes-Benz video takes directly under the hood of the new SLK 55 AMG, into the heart of it’s naturally-aspirated M157 5.5-liter V8 engine.
The unit, which is based on the new twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8, which is replacing the naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter V8, comes with fresh engineering goodies, such as variable valve timing, direct injection, stop-start and, more importantly, AMG’s Cylinder Management, a function that sends four of the cylinders to sleep when they’re not needed. All these tech features promise to allow the powerplant to offer an efficiency of 8.4 liters per 100 km (28 mpg).

When you to step on the throttle, you get 422 hp and a peak torque of 540 Nm (398 lb-ft), enough to send the SLK past the 60 mph mark in 4.5 seconds.
